The first 40 lbs came off in 3 months but the next 10 lbs
took 3 more months. Of course 2 of those
months were holiday months in November and December and the darkest part of the
winter, so I tended to cheat on my food and on my exercise plan.
Then in January I took winter-break vacation
with my sweetheart Jeannie to Las Vegas, buffet capitol of the world. But in February I got back on my food and
walking program. The weight started to
drop off again but at a less intense pace, at 3 lbs per week.
Once the sun started to come back my body was prone to stay
the course and I once again felt empowered to continue my quest to lose 81 total
pounds and get to 199. I spend about 7
hours per week at the gym or outside walking. I try to take 10,000 steps per day. I get out of my desk chair and walk around when I am on my cell phone.
I had several
funny pockets of fat that needed to be firmed up. I can’t believe how far out of shape I
allowed myself to get. But my body is changing and I feel better than I have
for years. My daily productivity
has gone up and I enjoy life much more.
My challenge is that I am a “projects” kind of guy. Once I have a project I throw myself fully
into the process and get so focused I allow other things to fall by the
wayside. I had a ten year project
creating and building a new LDS Stake congregation that started at 2400 and
grew to over 3000 with two chapels built during my tenure. That took up almost all of my extra time
outside of my profession as an educator.
I tend to stress eat which was a daily routine during those
ten years. I gained mucho weight and my
body suffered. But once released I took
on a personal project of getting back into shape. It feels a bit self serving but is essential
as I retire and move to the next phase of my life.
Recently I realized it is not self serving but necessary in
order to be more useful to my family, profession, and community. My doctors have helped in various ways with encouragement
and expertise.
My Chiropractor/health-coach
has been superb in keeping me motivated.
This is one of the most satisfying things I have ever done.
I love my food program because of its glycemic balance and it
works just like they said it would. I
have tried the others and never been able to push past 25 pounds off before yo-yoing. The main difference this time
is the ease of the food program and the coaching I have received. Can you tell I love what this program has
done for me?
I have many friends who have
accomplished similar goals so it is not just uniquely suited to my circumstances. It also helps older people, diabetics, and
others with special situations. The
program has been recommended by over 20,000 doctors. If you need to lose 20 lbs or more it is
worth looking at.
Let me know if you have questions. Here is a link to my website with photos as
well as testimonials about the program:

Hunger, Health, and Happiness; a title stirring in my brain as
I awoke this morning. Many years ago I
learned concepts of self-discipline when I was not disciplined much at all. I was more than a typical self absorbed young
adult trying to learn how to live on my own and prepare for my future.
I skirted on the edge of rules at a conservative university
feeling like I deserved some uniqueness. One day I realized that uniqueness is
more those who learn how to control their lives than those who let life take
them where every wind of cultural fancy blew.
I wanted to be good at what my profession might be
someday. I wanted to do well in school
so I could have opportunity open up to me.
I listened to a presentation which taught skills for time
management. I read a book about how to
read a book faster. I tried to improve
my study skills. I made list after list
of things I needed to do to improve myself.
Somehow I was still missing the improvement I expected. The lesson for me was that learning
self-discipline is like weight lifting.
You don’t go from bench pressing 125 to 215 over night. It takes time and persistence to generate new
habits to a self-perpetuating lifestyle. I would have to be patient as the new
me emerged, or just give in to failure and mediocrity. Patience was not my norm. I needed an 8 week boot-camp so I could come
out a different creature. I had no idea
growing up was going to be so hard.
The rest of the school year went OK with incremental changes. But boot-camp was still needed. I chose a two year mission experience for my
Church as my crucible. I intended to be the
hardest working most obedient missionary ever.
Talk about an extended boot-camp; missions are monk-like discipleship. I was determined to survive.
Now don’t get me wrong, I loved serving the people of
British Columbia and Alaska, many of whom were native North Americans. But
dirty moldy bathrooms, cots to sleep on, peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches or
cold cereal at most meals, 16 hour work days, -50 degree weather, 90+%
rejection, no television or other entertainment when you need to “chill”, restricted library, constant return&report
prying eyes, and a culture that insisted on not giving up, caused my
free-spirit to feel claustrophobic. But I
was determined to finish the course.
In late 1973 I left for home after two full years of self
imposed spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual boot-camp. It was the
most difficult thing I had done up to that point in my young life. When I went back to college in January I
discovered I had changed. My focus was
better, I had goals. I was more
interested in what the professors were trying to teach me. My grades took a huge leap forward. My boot-camp had done the trick. Self-discipline was no longer the anomaly. It had become much more natural.
Now here is where Hunger, Health, and Happiness come
in. It takes a decent amount of self
discipline to maximize happiness. If we
are too self absorbed we get out of balance and happiness suffers. But learning to take care of the essential
ingredients of life: hunger and health make it possible to access maximum
strength and happiness. A trusted Church
leader taught me that in order to be of service to mankind, I must first learn
to control my own appetites and passions.
Then I would be capable of helping others along the way. His famous speech was titled “Know Thyself, Control
Thyself, Give Thyself”.
So here I am 40 years after my boot-camp having made similar
mistakes as in my younger years. But
this time the reason was different. I
had been serving others non-stop since I came out of my original boot camp and
forgot to continue to control my appetites. I had gained a total of 100 pounds
since I left my mission experience at age 21.
So I have created a new boot-camp, but this time I sleep in
a cozy bed in our comfortable home and have not had to go monk-like. My
boot-camp is teaching me new habits to take care of my health and hunger. I am eating differently now. I am in my 6th week of my weight
loss program.
My body is changing and my attitude is improving. My energy
is up and my productivity is better. My
creativity is skyrocketing. I have been
caught off guard by how many things have changed since I determined to put some
good old fashioned self-discipline back into my health habits. Even my golf game improved.
I have a long way to go. I am particularly anxious to get to my goal-weight of 199 lbs so I can go on a maintenance program and keep the new habits firmly set. I refuse to yo-yo this time. I will be more useful to my wife, my family, my profession, and others. Besides, it’s really nice to feel so much better physically. Hunger, Health, and Happiness is my new mantra. Shakes versus Shakes---Not All are Created Equal
I love
shakes. I just finished my morning
shake. For most of my life I have
enjoyed gulping down an extra large strawberry shake from DQ and want more. When I drive to Soldotna Alaska I stop at the
Sterling Tesoro and get a soft serve ice cream in a waffle cone and then a few
hours later go to the DQ in Soldotna Alaska and get my traditional extra jumbo-large
strawberry shake and down it without much hesitation. Besides admitting I love strawberry shakes I
admit I just plain-old love ice cream, period.
Now here’s
the strange thing. I haven’t had any ice
cream for almost 5 weeks since I started Dr. Brady’s weight loss program. I haven’t even been craving it. However, I have had satisfying strawberry
shakes provided by the food from the weight loss program. Sure no DQ, but just as satisfying. That is a whopping caloric difference of 770
calories. It took a while to get deep
enough into the DQ “nutrition” guide but I finally found the large strawberry
shake at 840 calories. My shake from Dr
Brady’s Nutrition plan is 70 calories.
That’s right, just 70 calories. I
have one every morning as my first of six meals for the day. It fills me up for
2 ½ hours. I know it’s hard to believe
but it really works for me.
But you
have to know the secret to make it like the beloved DQ monster shake. For the
first few days on my new weight loss program, I wasn’t necessarily enjoying the
shakes. They were too watery to me. So I
experimented. Now they are large and of similar
consistency to the DQ cholesterol-bullet.
Here is how
I make it; 7 ounces of cold filtered water in a blender. Add one full cup of ice and the powdered contents
of my meal packet. Put the Blender on
chop to reduce all the ice to slurpy-like consistency. Blend on high for an additional 30
seconds. While blending, you can add a little
more water only if the mixer has stopped rotating top to bottom. Pour into a large glass and enjoy
slowly. Cold and very much like a “normal”
shake.
So it’s a no
brainer for me; 840 calories
versus 70 calories with
similar satisfaction factor. That’s a
secret to success for me on this wonderful Weight-Loss program; enjoying food
that fills me up while reducing my calorie intake and quality. Thus far as of
today I have lost a total of 25 lbs in less than 5 weeks on Dr. Brady’s Weight-Loss
Program. My blood sugar has been consistent.
My body is feeling better than it has in years.

Pancake and Syrup --- Yum!
http://weightlosspowerusers.com/content/video-testimonials
I just had my pancake meal for the day. That's right; just one good sized pancake fills me up for 2 & 1/2 hours. I have special syrup provided by the Weight Loss Program. On my second month of food I ordered a whole box of syrup.
It tastes sweet but isn't...I'm not sure how they do it. I used to cover my pancakes with thick oozing syrup but now need just a bit to give my mouth the sensation of sweetness. Its like my mouth has been trained by the my Food Program to appreciate tiny taste differences. I even use a little bit of syrup on my oatmeal to "sweeten" it up. Enjoy!
If you have some secret or suggestion that might help us, please comments with as much detail as possible. Any helpful input is appreciated by all of us.
